Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois official IBF world title, September 21

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn today officially announced the September 21 world title fight between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois. After Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt, interim titleholder Dubois became the full champion and Joshua will now have another opportunity to fight for the world championship. Here are some words from Hearn about the upcoming fight.

Hearn on the official announcement of the Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois IBF title fight

“We know that before the 5v5 fight, fighting Hrgovic was an option and I have always said that if this fight becomes a world heavyweight title fight, we will fight Daniel Dubois. AJ wants to fight anyone. Now you have two Brits, a world heavyweight title, 100,000 people, a Riyad season card, an off-the-charts card. September 21 is a huge, huge day and night for British boxing.

How Joshua had a chance to take the belt from Dubois who was elevated

“I love it because AJ can dethrone the champion. Once he becomes a three-time world heavyweight champion, each of his victories will be against world heavyweight champions, not a vacant belt or something like that.

“I always believed he would become undisputed champion and this is a step forward. If he wins this fight, he will fight for the undisputed heavyweight title of the world, I have no doubt. And I believe that’s where destiny will take him.”

On how he thinks Joshua will match up with Dubois in the ring

“I think it’s a tough fight. I think he’s quite busy, Dubois. I don’t think he will be that busy, you saw him take a lot of penalties against Hrgovic. AJ is a different type of puncher than Hrgovic. You can’t walk on your right hands, you’ll go straight to sleep. So I think he’s going to be smarter, but he’s going to be busy and he’s going to try to get a shot at Anthony.

“He believes he has the power to hurt everyone and he does, so he has to work difficult to make those shots. By doing this, he will enter the realm of fire and that is why it will be an amazing fight.

Brian McIntyre says Terence Crawford can’t leave out Israil Madrimov

Brian McIntyre says Terence Crawford can't leave out Israil Madrimov

Terence Crawford’s trainer Brian McIntyre takes some time to talk to Fight Hub about how his fighter is acclimating to his novel weight class as he prepares for his fight against Israil Madrimov at 154 pounds. Below you can read some fragments of his speech.

McIntyre on how Crawford’s camp is going for Madrimov

“The camp is going well. Working demanding, as always. I’m just patiently waiting for the upcoming date when we can see a stronger, harder hitter like Terence do his thing.”

About the challenges Crawford faced to reach this weight class

“It’s not really a challenge because Terence has grown from 147 pounds, so his body is developing more now and gaining more power, so it doesn’t hold him back anymore. He needs to maintain a certain weight and just let it go and do his thing. He also has great strength coaches… everything is going well at this novel weight.”

About what Mardimov brings to this fight

“Seeing Madrimov, just watching him fight and just watching him as a person, I believe he will get a good, better performance out of Terence because the kid looks determined. I know he’s only had 10 fights, but he’s had a lot of amateur fights, he’s fought some great guys at the professional level, and he’s a champion. So he brings a lot to the table for Terence and I can’t wait to see that.

“I look at him as the ‘Mean Machine’ (Egidijus Kavaliauskas). Mean Machine was abrasive, the man and the dude were tough as hell. He had a good beard, but when Bud turned it up, he went in there and got the job done. So I look at Madrimov that way, with that decisive style, substantial good chin, just ready to go blow for blow and I think that’s what Madrimov will bring to the table.”

On whether they received any hints from Turki Alalshikh about a potential fight with Canelo

“Well, I guess it’s just one fight at a time now. So the fight that faces Bud is focused on that. Bud has never underestimated an opponent, never underestimated him, so now he’s only focused on Madrimov because this guy is risky, really risky. So that’s where his attention is.

“As for (Alashikh)… I’ve never talked to him, I think I’ve only seen him once, so I can’t tell you what his thought process is.”

On how he thinks Crawford will handle Canelo

“I look at Canelo as if he can be beaten. He had already been beaten, so Bud had the tools to beat him, that’s how I look at it. As for breaking him, when this fight appears on the radar or on the table, I will start studying his style more closely and how to break him, but right now my thoughts are on this risky Madrimov. I can’t slip on this guy.

Jack Catterall and Regis Prograis official fight for August. 24 in Manchester

Jack Catterall will return to the ring on August 8. 24, against Regis Prograis in the DAZN main event in Manchester, England.

The 30-year-old Catterall (29-1, 13 KO) last lost on May 25, defeating Josh Taylor in a rematch after a controversial 2022 fight in which Catterall suffered his only defeat so far.

Prograis (29-2, 24 KO) had his last fight in December. 2023, losing a one-sided fight to Devin Haney and losing the WBC super lightweight title in the process. The 35-year-old “Rougarou” has looked quite gritty in both of his 2023 appearances, including a split decision victory over Danielito Zorrilla.

Catterall’s win over Taylor was more about settling a grudge than anything else, considering Taylor wasn’t exactly fired up heading into this fight, but it’s good to see he’ll be back fairly quickly, even if Prograis also seems to have his best days already behind us and of course yes.

However, the division isn’t very open to a bigger fight for Catterall, and being busy probably appeals greatly to “El Gato,” who has been on the shelf for the past two years waiting for Taylor and pivoting.

For Prograis, the fight will be about returning to the 140-weight race. For Catterall, it will mean – once again – confirming his status as a top fighter in this weight.

Tim Bradley explains how Gervonta Davis will knock out Vasily Lomachenko

Tim Bradley explains how Gervonta Davis will knock out Vasily Lomachenko

Tim Bradley puts on his analyst hat for a potential showdown between Gervonta Davis and Vasily Lomachenko. In the few excerpts below, Bradley describes how the fight unfolded, how he knew Tank’s upper body would eventually catch up with Frank Martin, and why he thinks the same punch could destroy Lomachenko.

Bradley on how he knew Tank’s uppercut would get Martin

“Trends. Every fighter has tendencies, man. They make certain movements, they do it constantly. I saw this during a film study. I saw Martin always falling – changing levels, falling low, almost like a wrestler. He puts on a wrestler’s attitude, he’s used to it, he was an all-state wrestler if you didn’t know that.

“And then when he does that, he raises his lead hand really high, like he’s blinding his peripheral, and I thought that would be the perfect moment… Tank will see it.

“Tank is smarter than many people give him credit for. This motherfucker is clever and watches everything. You think he’s not looking? He watches your movies… Don’t you think he watches Lomachenko? I’ve been watching for years, for years. And he feels like he knows how to beat him, trust me.

How Tank fits in with Lomachenko

“It’s a tough fight. I think it’s 50/50. I don’t think it’s 60/40, I think it’s 50/50, and the reason for that is if you don’t notice it, Tank can counterattack, so he’s always watching, he’s reactive, he’s always looking for a counterattack. Man, he reacts to feints a lot. Yes. He reacts to feints, and Loma is one of the best at feinting, knocking opponents out of position.

“So I think it will be hard. I think it’s going to be a challenge for Tank in terms of his rhythm and his timing… I think it’s going to throw Tank off a little bit, so I think it’s going to be a little bit more of a challenge because Loma knows how to change his rhythm, he knows also how to change the distance.

“Does age matter here? Maybe, yes. Can Loma be worn in combat? Yes… there is no doubt about it. But I think he’s clever and I think he can make waves in a fight.

“I really feel like Tank can win this fight and he can knock him out, and there’s a way to do it. I think he needs to get Loma back on his feet, man. He needs to reset it.

“He gets him back on his feet when he’s out of position, he attacks that body. Loma also has that high guard… lots of body exposure for Tank to take advantage of and hit him demanding, hurting him all the way to the body.

“Loma, sometimes he’ll misjudge, mistime and come from too far away, and Tank could time him. The shot I see Tank hurting him with is also an uppercut. I always felt like it was a shot that could have landed on Loma. If he lands it, it will be night, night.”
