Mike Tyson and Jake Paul called for a last-minute drastic change to boxing regulations
Published
8 hours agoon
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have been told they have to change the rules for their upcoming boxing fight as the debate over their clash continues. The meeting between both fighters is scheduled for November 15 in Texas, even though Tyson is 58 years senior and 31 years older than his opponent.
The man once dubbed “the baddest man in the world” hasn’t fought professionally since 2005, when his career ended at the hands of Irish journeyman Kevin McBride.
He did take part in an exhibition fight with another veteran, Ron Jones Jr. in November 2020, but preparations for this showdown with Paul have been plagued by concerns about his health and well-being.
Former UFC star Brendan Schaub has been scathing about the fight, arguing that a major change needs to be made to attract audiences. “You want to get people excited about this fight and they can’t, they try but they can’t,” he said on his podcast.
“Just do it with bare knuckles. If Jake gets punched bare-knuckled in a fight with Mike Tyson, it’s over because now you’re asking yourself, “Are they in cahoots together or is there something going on?”
Given that neither fighter has ever fought bare-knuckled, it is unlikely that such a dramatic last-minute change would be sanctioned. The initial event date was pushed back because Tyson suffered a flare-up of his ulcers on the plane, which Schaub sarcastically expressed.
“I like my boy Mike, but I just don’t have the appetite for it. Nobody wants to see that,” he continued. “It just doesn’t make sense. They made the arena too massive. I think they overdid it.
“Yes, I know, the other thing is that Mike has to withdraw due to ulcers. I don’t understand how you want to twist this. Mike Tyson, God bless him, retired due to ulcers. You know, it’s just difficult.”
Despite Schlub’s reservations, 80,000 fans are expected at AT&T Arena. The card also promises to be a great attraction – Katie Taylor will fight in the long-awaited rematch with Amanda Serrano.
The fight will also be broadcast globally on Netflix, and the network expects millions of people to watch it. Both players will earn over £15 million for their participation.
Former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson has repeatedly insisted that he is in shape to beat the YouTuber. He frequently posted videos highlighting his physical prowess and promised that his friendship with Paul would not interfere with his ruthless attitude.

Eddie Hearn says playing 5v5 against De La Hoya is ‘basic work’
Published
12 hours agoon
November 8, 2024Eddie Hearn has stated that he would be more than content to have some of his players take on Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy stable in a 5v5 tournament.
Since Hearn and Frank Warren pitted five of their players against each other earlier this year in Riyad, there have been calls for him and his long-time nemesis De La Hoya to do the same.
And while the two fighters haven’t had much cross-promotional fights in the past, the Golden Boy general manager stated that he would “love” to face the Brentwood powerhouse before going on to tease him about some of his fighters’ recent performances.
– I mean, I’d love to… I’d love to! And what about him? He’s 0 and 17 now, or 0 in 24, 25,” De La Hoya said on the show DAILY function
“Yes, why not?”
Hearn reached out to X (formerly Twitter) to respond to the former six-weight world champion, citing five potential Matchroom vs Golden Boy fights that he described as “basic to make”:
- Jaron Ennis vs. Ryan Garcia fight
- Shakur Stevenson vs. William Zepeda
- Vergil Ortiz Jr vs. Israil Madrimov
- Gilberto Ramirez vs. Jai Opetaia
- Jack Catterall vs. Jose Ramirez fight
Boots v. Ryan, Shakur v. Zepeda, Ortiz v. Madrimov, Zurdo v. Opetaia, Catterall v. Ramirez = basic job! https://t.co/PcIwoQ9oAC
— Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn) November 6, 2024
In June, during the inaugural 5v5 concept, Hearn was gored by Warren, and each of his players lost that night.
His suffering was worsened just a few months later by his prized heavyweight fighter Anthony Joshua suffered a brutal defeat at half-time to Warren’s long-time protégé Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.
Hearn and De La Hoya have been exchanging information on social media and in interviews for years, and it is unlikely that a 5-on-5 meeting will be as cordial as Warren’s earlier this year.
The Briton became a regular target of the Californian’s weekly social media segment “Clap Back Thursdays”, with him repeatedly questioning De La Hoya’s mental state.

Mike Tyson called Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder to fight
Published

November 8, 2024Boxing icon Mike Tyson is preparing for a sensational return to the ring, and has previously expressed his readiness to fight heavyweight titans Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder as part of a charity event.
Ahead of his highly anticipated fight against YouTube sensation Jake Paul next Friday at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, Tyson is expected to return to the professional boxing arena for the first time since his last official fight, a loss to Kevin McBride in 2005. prior to his 2020 exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr for philanthropic purposes.
The powerful former heavyweight champion known as “The Baddest Man on the Planet” has clearly not lost his edge despite the years since his prime. In the build-up to his draw with Jones Jr, which ended in a draw, Tyson challenged boxing’s then top heavyweight dogs – Fury, Wilder and Joshua – by offering to take part in exhibition fights with them for charity.
Committed to donating his earnings from fighting the boxing legend to those in need, Tyson praised his potential opponents, saying: “I think they’re brilliant,” and then commented: “They’re great fighters. They could do so much for society. They could organize exhibitions and take money from them, because they attract such a enormous audience and they could facilitate so many people.
Fury expressed his passion for giving, emphatically stating, “There are so many people we can do so much for, and it wouldn’t take even a tenth of their charitable hearts to do something like that. In fact, fight exhibitions with me and most of our charity would go to people who desperately need it.”
The heavyweight champion revealed earlier this year that he wants to take on the best in the boxing scene with his lofty charity goals in mind: “If it means we can have bigger representatives for charities, then so be it, I’m willing to do that too,” adding: “It’s all for charity, and if they’re willing to do it, I’m all for it too. It’s entertainment, it’s just charity – and it’s for a good cause, but we give it our all.”
When asked about a potential fight with Joshua, Tyson couldn’t contain his excitement: “I would love to do it. That would be stunning. I want you to mark them as show because they don’t cause any strenuous feelings. representative of charities and I see it as something bigger than myself. “Buying a recent car, a recent girlfriend, a recent mansion, a recent plane”…that doesn’t work for me anymore. ” Fury raised the issue of failed negotiations for an exhibition match with Tyson, citing financial disagreements as the reason the fight did not materialize.

November 7, 2024Jake Paul has opened up about his heartbreak when boxing icon Mike Tyson had to postpone his highly anticipated fight. The YouTube sensation was preparing to face Tyson in July, but the legendary heavyweight fighter suffered a flare-up of ulcers during the flight, causing a four-month delay.
Tyson, who was hospitalized and diagnosed with a significant bleeding ulcer, was advised to stop training and postpone the fight to November 15. Now, with the rescheduled fight looming, the pair are set to fight in Texas in front of a potential crowd of 80,000.
Paul, who boasts 10 wins in 11 fights, confessed his disappointment in the Netflix documentary. “When I received the news that he wasn’t on the team and wasn’t able to fight, I was just numb and thought: ‘f**k…’,” he lamented.
“I’m the type of person who likes a schedule and likes to know what I’m doing. It just decided I couldn’t do anything, it was out of my control.”
He added: “Nobody can tell Mike Tyson what to do and if he wants to fight me, of course I will say yes. This is the chance of a lifetime to fight one of the two most celebrated boxers of all time; Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson I see Mike Tyson as a killer, so I never expected something like this.
Paul faced bare-knuckle fighter and former UFC challenger Mike Perry on the day originally scheduled for his fight with Tyson and was victorious in the sixth round.
He stated: “At the end of the day, the Mike Tyson fight is great, but I have a goal to become world champion and I won’t ponderous it down for anyone.”
Tyson last appeared in the ring four years ago when he drew with boxing icon Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match he largely controlled.
Paul also performed that night, delivering a second-round knockout punch to the NBA’s Nate Robinson. The upcoming fight between Tyson and Paul will be officially recorded and will consist of two eight-minute rounds in which the fighters will wear 14-ounce gloves.
It marks Tyson’s return to professional boxing since retiring midway through his fight with Kevin McBride nearly two decades ago.
