Anthony Joshua Opens Up About ‘Pain’ During Boxing Career
Published
2 days agoon
Anthony Joshua has admitted that there have been no shortage of hard moments in his 11-year professional career.
Joshua has become one of the sport’s biggest stars over the past decade, winning the heavyweight world title twice.
Despite his successes, things haven’t always gone the way the Watford player had hoped – he has suffered defeat three times: once to Andy Ruiz Jr. and twice at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk.
After suffering his second loss to Usyk, “AJ” broke down immediately after the fight in Jeddah, throwing the Ukrainian’s world titles to the ground before launching into a bizarre tirade in the ring.
And talking to BBC Sportshe stated that he had no intention of reliving the feelings he was forced to experience that night.
“I worked strenuous, endured a lot of pain, and worked strenuous to feel better.
“I hope that experiences like this will never happen again, because as you saw that night, [after the second Usyk loss]”I don’t like losing.”
“I think I have a gift for fighting and competing. In boxing, you can read certain tendencies, you can read your opponent, so I can always keep an eye on that.

“But there’s a maximum level you can get to. And that’s happened in the last eight or 10 months. I’ve really honed those skills.”
Joshua will need to employ his skills to their full potential this weekend when he faces IBF heavyweight world champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.
The 2012 Olympic gold medalist is the bookmakers’ favorite. He is expected to dethrone Dubois and become just the fifth three-time heavyweight world champion in history.
But the 27-year-old “Dynamite” is currently in the best shape of his career, coming into the tournament off victories over Jarrell Miller and, most recently, Filip Hrgovic.

Daniel Dubois’ Coach Breaks Silence on Rumors of Conflict
Published
6 hours agoon
September 20, 2024Daniel Dubois’ trainer Don Charles has spoken out about rumours that he and the 27-year-old are in conflict.
Fight week for the duel between Dubois and Anthony Joshua was bombarded with questions about “Dynamite’s” relationship with Charles, as the veteran trainer failed to appear at any of the shows.
Theories about the coach being thrown out of camp soon became common, something that seemed almost unthinkable in the face of the biggest fight of his protégé’s career.
However, Charles decided to clarify the matter.
Speaking to Sports TalkHe claimed he did not attend any Fight Week events because he was infirmed and did not want to risk Dubois’ health.

There are some people who, for some reason, are spreading bad, malicious rumors about the conflict.
No, there were no misunderstandings. I don’t want to disappoint them. We are very, very together. [as a] team.
“The family and the coaching staff were very, very close. So this whole thing, this whole thing is absurd. It’s a vile lie.”
We finished camp successfully a week ago. And then on Sunday I felt like I wasn’t feeling my best.
“It’s a chilly, but a really bad chilly. I was lying in bed and literally trying to get rid of it.
“The most sensible thing to do was not to approach my warrior, because can you imagine what would happen if I gave it to him? Then there would be no fight.”
Tomorrow night Dubois will defend his IBF heavyweight title for the first time, with a record crowd of 96,000 fans expected at Wembley Stadium.
Rumours of a feud between the heavy-handed Londoner and Charles came as a surprise given he picked up two of his best wins – Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic – while under the 62-year-old’s tutelage.
Father Dave Dubois was rumoured to be at the centre of the conflict, with speculation that he was also a key reason for his son’s split from former coach Shane McGuigan
However, at yesterday’s press conference, “DDD” himself also stated that there was no conflict, confirming that coach Charles’ absence was simply due to illness.

Jake Paul Warns Mike Tyson’s Injury Could Lead to ‘Boxing Ban’
Published
10 hours agoon
September 20, 2024Jake Paul has been given a stern warning that there could be a public outcry and demands for a boxing ban if he seriously injures Mike Tyson during their upcoming fight.
The duo are scheduled to face off in Arlington, Texas on November 15. The bout comes after their original fight was postponed due to a medical emergency experienced by Tyson, a former world heavyweight champion.
Concerns about Tyson’s physical condition remain. The 58-year-old has been open about his trouble walking after training and will undergo a medical before the fight.
Former professional boxer Paulie Malignaggi did not mince his words and informed Paul that if Tyson suffered any injuries, there could be calls to abolish the sport.
Malignaggi explained: “Being hit in the head by teenage, mighty guys Mike’s age is not good. When you’re younger, you can handle the hits better.
“When you’re older, your body isn’t built to take that kind of damage. Things can go really badly. If something like that happened, people would be calling for a ban on the sport. Personally, I don’t think his fight with Jake Paul should have happened.”
“He’ll be 58 then. Fifty-eight is still 58. We live in a generation that doesn’t understand that aging is a real thing. You can show Mike Tyson at his best from the ’80s, but the guy who steps into the ring won’t be the same Mike Tyson.”
Malignaggi expressed solemn concerns about the potential damage Paul could do to Tyson due to his age. Speaking to Canada Casino, he warned: “Jake Paul may not be world class, but he’s certainly not a novice. He’s been boxing for about five years.
“After four years of boxing, I won the U.S. National Championship, so Jake is far from a beginner. He’s mighty and teenage. There’s a lot of risk in hitting someone Tyson’s age.
“Tyson didn’t take punches well at 36, let alone now. If you hit a guy that age, it affects him. Imagine if a mighty guy like Jake hit him. I’d hate to find out.”
However, Malignaggi isn’t alone in his concerns about the upcoming fight. UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock also voiced his concerns, suggesting that fans could effectively mourn the boxing icon if Paul were to win.
“Here’s what I’m saying, because, like I said, I think what Jake Paul and those guys are doing is brilliant, I really do,” Shamrock said.
“I think they’ve never fought a contender, but they’ve made more money than any world title fight, which is brilliant. I mean, it’s brilliant, but it’s not good. Because Jake Paul can’t win.”
“[If Paul] wins, there is a huge bad taste in the boxing world. It’s a disappointment for the organization that loved Mike Tyson.
“It’s like someone’s dead and it should be a victory for Jake Paul and I think for that tiny group of people who are watching it, yes, but in the whole boxing atmosphere, it’s going to feel like someone’s dead.”

Lennox Lewis explains what will decide Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois’ victory
Published
14 hours agoon
September 20, 2024Lennox Lewis has given his analysis of this weekend’s world title clash between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
Lewis will be one of 96,000 people at Wembley Stadium to witness Joshua and Dubois clash for the IBF heavyweight world champion belt.
Both Britons are among the best fighters in the league and many pundits believe their fight will be a classic shootout.
However, “Lew” believes there is one more key factor that will prove decisive.
Speaking to Boxing NewsThe former undisputed heavyweight king explained that “whoever lands the punch right will win.”
“It’s going to be an epic fight – both guys can punch. They can throw great punches.
“They’re right-handers, they’re both right-handers. But first they have to line it up with the jab.
“Whoever vaccinates his body first will be victorious.”
Dubois became world champion by upgrading his status to interim after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the title.
And Lewis sent a message to the 27-year-old that Saturday night would be his chance to prove he is the rightful champion.

“This is a chance to go or not go. Even though you got the belt, now you have to defend it.
“Are you a true champion or not?”
“Dynamite” took over the interim belt with an eight-round win over Filip Hrgovic in June, which was the best performance of his career to date.
That performance, as well as a gutsy comeback against Jarrell Miller in his previous fight, went some way to allaying any doubts the Londoner had the ambition to compete at the division’s highest level.
Joshua, however, is on a completely different level to Miller and Hrgovic, and Dubois is well aware that he cannot afford to take as many shots as he has in recent performances.
