Daniel Dubois cannot afford to make “one mistake” in his fight with Anthony Joshua or risk a knockout like Francis Ngannou, Eddie Hearn has warned.

Hearn and Frank Warren are joining forces to promote Joshua’s Saturday fight with IBF heavyweight champion Dubois at Wembley Stadium.

The 27-year-old rose from interim champion to the full belt shortly after stopping Filip Hrgovic in June, while “AJ” is on a three-fight stoppage streak.

Joshua demolished former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou over two rounds in March, five months after the 38-year-old defeated Tyson Fury, before suffering a controversial split decision defeat.

Hearn insists Dubois will suffer a similar fate to the Cameroonian if he makes any mistakes.

“People want to discredit Ngannou, but look what he did against Fury,” the matchroom chairman said Heavenly sports.

“I think he beat him. Anthony made it a mismatch and he needed a cushion.

“If Daniel Dubois wants to get hit with a right hand and wants to make sloppy mistakes, the same thing that happened to Ngannou will happen to him.

“If you get hit by Anthony Joshua right now, you’ll fall asleep.

“If Daniel Dubois comes out aggressively like he did against [Filip] Hrgovic, you’re going to get shot.

“And if he makes one mistake, it’ll be Daniel Dubois’ night.”

Much of the build-up to the fight centred around ‘Dynamite’ dropping the Watford man during a sparring session that took place seven years ago when both fighters were in Team GB.

Hearn, who has promoted the 34-year-old since he turned professional after winning gold at the 2012 Olympics, says the significance of the rumours is overstated.

“When they [Queensberry] signed Dubois, there was a narrative going around that Dubois had flattened AJ,” Hearn said. Professional boxing fans.

“Now all of a sudden we find out he rocked him with a left hook, AJ took a quick walk around the ring and then continued sparring.

“If you get seriously injured during sparring, you don’t continue with the spar.

“The fact that they were holding the pole tells you all you need to know about how badly he was injured.

“I’m sure he was pissed off during sparring, not just with Daniel Dubois but with all sorts of different people, because those are huge heavyweights and when you get hit right in the chin, that’s what happens.”

Eddie Hearn has questioned Oscar De La Hoya over his recent comments criticizing Canelo Alvarez’s upcoming fight with Edgar Berlanga.

Hearn and De La Hoya share a broadcast platform on DAZN, but there has been a bitter rivalry between the two for years, perhaps fuelled by Canelo’s decision to join the British promoter after leaving Golden Boy De La Hoya.

De La Hoya clashed with Alvarez on the eve of his May fight with Jaime Munguia, in which the Mexican confrontation with his former bossas tensions mounted at the press conference preceding fight week.

The 51-year-old fired another shot at the four-weight world champion during Instagram video on Thursday, claiming that his September 14 fight with Berlanga in Las Vegas was a rip-off for fans and confirmed that he will instead compete in UFC 306 at the Sphere.

“So we’re a week away from a boxing match no one asked for and a UFC event that everyone will be watching,” he said.

“Canelo fights Berlanga, it’s another snooze fest. They’re trying to sell a $90 PPV with a minimum of $500 in person.

“Right now, paying for another crappy Canelo who always beats a weaker opponent is just robbery.

“I’ll be attending the UFC at the Sphere instead.”

Hearn, who promotes Berlanga, believes the ‘Golden Boy’ would be better off promoting his own talents rather than focusing attention on a fighter he is no longer under contract with.

“He feels like he’s been a mess all along,” Hearn said Place to stomp.

“I think Oscar should exploit this platform to promote his players.

“If you talk about it and you get those numbers, why do you keep talking about Canelo Alvarez?

“Who you don’t represent, who you have nothing in common with.

Simon Jordan appeared to question Eddie Hearn’s future in boxing after warning him that Saudi boxing bosses are capable of taking full control of the sport.

Jordan and Hearn engaged in another gripping debate during: live broadcast on talkSPORTmuch of which focused on the matchday chairman’s involvement in Saudi Arabia and, in particular, Turki Alalshikh, who played a key role in establishing the region as a major player in the world of boxing.

Alalshikh paired Hearn with long-time promotional rival Frank Warren and pitted them against each other in 5vs5 tournament in Saudi Arabia in June, with Warren Queensberry prevailing with a whitewash.

Following its inaugural appearance in the US last month, the Alalshikh Riyadh Season enters the UK for the first time on 21st September with the IBF heavyweight world title fight between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium.

As the talkSPORT pundit stated, Jordan recently had doubts about whether promoters were even necessary, and during a face-to-face meeting with Hearn, he reiterated that suggestion.

“When you replace the establishment, you become the establishment,” Jordan said.

“We are in a special time, these guys are making these fights especially for them.

“They just show up, and for me that’s not a substantial skill set.

“I wonder if the ultimate goal would be for the Saudis to say, ‘What do we need these guys for?’ They’re glorified agents, we can get fighters.

“If there wasn’t a damn good reason, why would I hang out with Hearn and [Frank] Warren.

“If I can economically turn off the lights, why do I need them?”

Matchroom was the main promoter of the first American Riyadh Season card which saw this Terence Crawford He won the WBA super welterweight title by defeating Israil Madrimov.

Hearn insists the event would not have been possible without his company’s work behind the scenes.

“I think it’s a bit harsh,” the 45-year-old replied.

“We have a huge business in running global sports. That skill goes deeper than just being a glorified agent and making deals.

“A few weeks ago we ran a season in Riyadh, USA with a 40-person Matchroom team.

“It was an event that could not have taken place without us in terms of promotion, infrastructure of television transactions, licensing, contacts with commissions, local governments and local authorities.

“This work is just amazing, and as the programs get bigger and the work changes.

“This is not a deal-and-cut situation.

“We and Queensberry are doing a huge amount of work ourselves, taking into account the demands of these people, and Turki Alalshikh demands that it is not basic to do it alone.”

Earlier this week, Alalshikh announced he would be capping pay-per-view prices to ensure fans paid no more than £20 in the UK and $20 worldwide.

Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan has dismissed Hearn’s suggestion that his company is crucial to the Saudis and believes they could monopolise the sport if they wanted to.

If he can gain the knowledge needed to fight the fights you cannot fight.

“He can gain the knowledge necessary to organize the events that you organize.

“So given the scale of the budget and the scale of the opportunity they have, they can turn the lights out if they feel like it.

“Now, whether they want it or not is another matter whether there is any benefit from it.”
