Here’s what the players had to say on Thursday in an interview with MGM Grand:
ERISLANDY LARA
“Motivation comes straightforward to me because I only think about my family and everyone I fight for. That makes me want to get up and work demanding every day.
“Danny is a great fighter and a champion in the lower weight classes, but middleweight is a completely different beast. We have to see if he can adapt to this different weight class.
“I don’t know if he can handle the force of my punches. We’ll find out on Saturday. I’m focused on being mentally and physically ready to do whatever it takes to win.
“I’m not really worried about the weight or height advantage, I’m just focused on getting in there and doing my best.
“We will continue to defend this title and look for the biggest and best fights.”
DANNY GARCIA
“It’s been a tough training camp and now it’s time to get in there and get the belt. The demanding work has been done and now we’re ready to get in there on Saturday night.
“For me, I feel like I’m already a Hall of Famer, but I think winning this belt is the cherry on top. Winning three divisions is a legacy thing, not many fighters do that. I’m striving for greatness.
“Lara has been here a long time, as have I, and we are two battle-hardened warriors. I know what I’m up against and I’ve prepared for it. I’m here to show the world that I’m a better man.
“It means the world to me to have my father on my side. Anyone can coach you, but the spiritual bond with your coach can take you to another level. That’s what gives us a special bond. When no one else believed, we believed.
“People have tried to tell me I’m too diminutive my whole career. I was naturally a huge guy who cut weight. For me, I’m naturally a middleweight. That’s my weight and I’m comfortable at it. If you don’t believe me, you’ll have to watch it.
“It never gets ancient, but I definitely remember being here 11 years ago fighting Lucas Matthysse at Mayweather vs. Canelo and people saying I was going to steal the show then too. It’s just another day of demanding work for me.”
CALEB’S PLANT
“Trevor knows for himself that I’m not a bum, and that’s why he wants to fight me. He wants to be on the huge stage, and that means he has to face a real fighter. Now he’s looking at a real fighter. He’s only fought bums, but he’s not fighting a bum now.
“We’ll see what he brings on Saturday. He’s unbeaten and wants to stay unbeaten. So he’ll come motivated.
“Family means the world to me. It means a lot to have my whole family in the gym with me. Having a team like that makes the whole process so much better.
“I know a lot of people say that, but this is the best camp I’ve had and the toughest I’ve ever boxed. I’ve been busy, I’ve looked acute and we’ll see what he can do against this.
“I’m going to put this belt around my waist on Saturday night. I’m not going to miss it. Whatever happens after that, we’ll be ready.”
TREVOR MCCUMBY
“We are ready to fight. It is very motivating to be on the card with all these great fighters and I am grateful to be here with them at this great event.
“There’s no bad blood on my side, I’m just ready to fight. There’s going to be certain things said at these press conferences, and I think Caleb has to make his opponent a villain when he goes in there. I don’t really let that get to my head. I go in there to take care of business.
“What happened gave us a little motivation. Caleb is emotional and lets people get into his head too easily.
“On Saturday you’ll see what I can do in the ring. There’s no hostility in me, but I’m going for his heart.
“The win is huge because Caleb is a last name. We’re trying to get through each other and it makes it a match made in heaven. I don’t know how it’s going to work out for him, but you’ve got to tune in because he’s going to steal the show.”
ROLANDO ROMERO
“I’m elated to be back on the huge stage. It’s just another fight and another opponent for me.
“Every fight is essential and I will not ignore him. Saturday is going to be a great night and I intend to deliver the best moments. Rolly is back.
“I’m definitely going for the knockout. I’m not taking it lightly at all, I’m just ready.”
MANUEL JAIMES
“I’m really excited to be here and on this card with all these great fighters. I’ve had a really tough training camp and I’m coming in to win on Saturday.
“This is the most essential moment of my career. There is nothing bigger than this stage. We had a great training camp and I am ready to win on Saturday.
“Rolly is a really good fighter and he’s been up there with the best. But I’m newborn and hungry and I’ll outwork him on Saturday.
“We had the best sparring in the world in Robert Garcia’s camp preparing for this fight. Rolly has lost before and he will lose again.”
STEPHEN FULTON JR
“It’s good to be back. I’m excited to be back. I can’t wait to get in there and show what I can do. I can’t wait. I’m definitely coming for the knockout on Saturday.
“I had the best training camp for this fight. I didn’t skip a single day. I just took it day by day. I feel like I’m in a great place and I’m ready to step into the ring.
“I feel like it was the right opponent for me because he’s a top contender. But I would fight the champion if he was available and willing, so after that Castro was just another fighter.
“I’ve really missed being in the ring. I’m not worried about any negativity from anyone. People will always have something to say. I’ll just keep doing my thing and doing whatever I have to do.
“I’m here to express myself and come back. This is my comeback. Whoever has the belt at 126, I’m ready.”
CARLOS CASTRO
“This is something I’ve been waiting for. I’ve had two losses, but these are the fights I want. I’m not going to shy away from anyone because I’m in this sport to prove myself.
“I was there with the best and that’s what I’m doing again. Those experiences prepared me mentally for what I have to do.
“I take my hat off to Fulton and what he’s done in the sport, but Saturday night is a completely different story. He’s going to have a great fighter in front of him.
“Being in these types of fights gives me extra motivation. Especially against a fighter like that. I’m ready to show everyone my best.”
VILLA ROIMAN
“I am so grateful to my entire team for making this fight possible. I can’t wait to get in the ring on Saturday night.
“But I had a great high-altitude training camp. I did everything I had to do and I’m ready for this win. It ends with a knockout.”
RICARDO SALAS
“I’m really excited about this fight. I dedicate this fight to my family and I can’t wait to show everyone what I can do on Saturday.
“I’ve been focused on preparing as demanding as I can for this fight because I want to put on a great show for the fans and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
“I think we’re both ready for hand-to-hand combat. That’s exactly what I like. I can’t wait because the fans are really going to love it.”
JONATHAN LOPEZ
“I’m super elated to be on this card and showcase my skills and talent. This is a great opportunity for me and I can’t wait for Saturday.
“I’m just ready to be in the moment. But I’m just treating it like another day at the office. I’m ready to show my talent on Saturday night.
“I was there with some guys with a lot of experience. I just tell myself I have to dominate every fight, and that’s what I come here to do.”

“I’ve seen Raul Curiel all these years and he never once mentioned my name,” Alexis Rocha said. “After my last defeat, he suddenly became interested in fighting me. If he thinks I’ve lost a step or somehow had an simple fight, he’s in for a rude awakening. I can’t wait to make a statement and show the world what I’m capable of.”
Santa Ana, California Rep. Alexis “Lex” Rocha comes from a struggling family. The younger brother of Ronny Rios, he was the youngest fighter to win a gold medal at the Junior Olympics at the age of 14 in 2012 and caught the attention of the boxing world by becoming a six-time national champion during his amateur career. Rocha signed with Golden Boy in January 2016 and made his professional debut in March 2016, defeating Jordan Rosario at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles. Since then, he has amassed an enviable record of powerful knockouts over top contenders and plans to return to world title contention, with his last fight being a victory over undefeated Santiago Dominguez on July 19 last year.
“The fans can expect a war,” said Raul Curiel. “I’m going to prepare well to put on a great show. This will be the most essential fight of my career so far. I know Alexis is a great fighter, a good opponent and will also show up prepared. My focus is on Alexis and if I can beat him, I know it will give me a chance to fight for the world championship.

George Kambosos moves up to 140, adds Eddie Hearn to team
Published
18 hours agoon
November 23, 2024Former unified lightweight champion George Kambosos approached promoter Eddie Hearn asking for more massive fights.
Kambosos has signed a co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn, under which the Greek-Australian slugger will continue his association with DiBella Entertainment Inc. and his own company, Ferocious Promotions.
The 21-3 star will move up to the super lightweight division of Matchroom Boxing’s lively division. He aims to become a two-weight world champion in early 2025, and as part of the deal, a title fight is promised as long as he continues to win.
Since his stunning victory over Teofimo Lopez, Kambosos has never shied away from competing against the best. Those three losses on his resume came to Devin Haney [twice] and Vasily Lomachenko, all at home and all for world titles.
The 31-year-old is now set to face compatriot Liam Paro after defending his IBF title against Richardson Hitchins in December in Puerto Rico.
“I am thrilled to be working with Matchroom Boxing. I am excited to have signed a three-way promotional cooperation agreement with my long-time promoter DiBella Entertainment Inc. and Ferocious Promotions,” Kambosos said.
“I made great success and history when I moved up the Matchroom shows by winning my UK elimination fight against Lee Selby. The most noteworthy and unforgettable is my victory against Teofimo at Madison Square Garden in Up-to-date York to become the 135-pound world champion.
“I am officially announcing that I will be moving up to 140 pounds and signing with Matchroom will ensure my continued success and the legacy I want to leave in the sport of boxing.”
Hearn, who adds an experienced campaigner to his stable, added: “I am delighted to welcome George to the team. George’s victory over Teofimo tore up the script and showed that George was the man for the massive time. He has proven to be a huge attraction in Australia and one of the real driving forces behind the rapid growth of boxing Down Under.
“The 140-pound division is full of massive names and massive potential fights. Adding George to the mix only elevates the level, and a possible fight with Liam Paro is a truly appetizing prospect. If Liam manages to win in a great fight against Richardson on December 7th [the fight could be on].
Lou DiBella, who has worked with Kambosos for years, said: “I’m glad I was able to make a deal with my antique buddy Eddie to work with George Kambosos Jr. and Ferocious Promotions.
“Throughout his career, George has been a fighter who has never shied away from a challenge, and now he wants to test himself against top junior welterweights.
Matchroom works with top 140-pounders, including George’s compatriot Liam Paro, and, like DiBella Entertainment, is heavily invested in Australia.
“It’s a natural partnership,” added the Up-to-date Yorker.

Mike Tyson had absolutely no chance of knocking out Jake Paul
Published
2 days agoon
November 21, 2024One of the hottest topics surrounding Mike Tyson’s return at the age of 58 was the possibility of the boxing legend scoring a knockout of Jake Paul.
WBN has weighed in on this topic several times, questioning the validity of five-second training clips that revealed nothing about Tyson’s abilities at this overdue age. One of the most intriguing observations during the preparations was the opinion of UFC commentator Daniel Cormier.
Speaking on his show “Funky and the Champ,” Cormier reflected on Tyson’s social media videos and offered an informed opinion on the meaning of the clips.
“I understand that [he is in amazing shape at 58]and I understand what he is saying [he feels as though he can compete]– Cormier said. “And I agree that when he hits the pads with Rafael Cordeiro, it looks like there’s still something left in him.
“But then I watch Jake Paul fight Mike Perry. I saw Jake Paul get overwhelmed to the point where he started to feel uncomfortable. It looked like Mike Perry had a chance. But Jake has a reserve tank he can go to and benefit from because he’s 28 years ancient. Then he comes back and finally finishes Mike Perry.
“At the beginning of the fight, Mike Perry gets beaten up and dropped. He looks trained and unmatched. This worries me because what if it looks like a 58-year-old man fighting a 28-year-old man while Mike can’t employ the backup tank to stay and compete with this newborn kid? I think it’s a failure for Jake Paul because if you beat Mike Tyson, everyone will love him.
He added: “What if Mike knocks him out? It’s over. Everything is ready. This would be the backfire of all time. If he gets knocked out, nothing like that has ever happened in the history of the sport.”
Unfortunately for Tyson, this revenge backfired spectacularly, as the former heavyweight champion’s return was the only event that bombed. Tyson had nothing left twenty years after he had nothing left in his tank and no desire to box in his mind.
Paul parlayed this into a money-making scheme that would forever be a success for him and his company, but would be poorly received by the die-hard boxing fraternity.
Cormier’s words resonate, especially after what happened in the ring when Mike Tyson struggled to shift into first gear, warning former fighters thinking about returning after 50.
