Jake Paul-Mike Perry, Amanda Serrano-Stevie Morgan Co-Headline July 20 DAZN PPV in Tampa

Published

on

Jake Paul and Amanda Serrano decided to not only stay lively but also engage in threatening fights.

The two will headline the rescheduled November 15 Netflix card at AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas. They will previously perform a similar role during the DAZN Pay-Per-View event taking place on July 20 at AMALIE Arena in Tampa, Florida.

Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) has confirmed that Paul (9-1, 6 knockouts) will face “Platinum” Mike Perry at the July 20 event. Perry is undefeated in the Bareknuckle Fighting Championship (5-0, 3 KOs in BKFC) and is a former MMA star. This will be his first boxing match since 2015.

Their fight presented at CELSIUS® will take place in eight scheduled rounds in the cruiserweight division.

Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KO) will maintain his linear and unified featherweight reign into his next fight. The record seven-division champion will face Stevie Morgan (14-1, 13 KO) in a 10-round junior welterweight fight.

The decision to stay at a higher weight should ensure a smoother transition for Serrano heading into his next outing, assuming he wins. Legendary southpaw Boricua will face a rematch with two-division and undisputed 140-pound queen Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KO). Their fight was moved to the November 15 event alongside Paul-Tyson; Irishman Taylor decided to rest this summer and go straight into the rematch with Serrano.

Both Paul and Serrano love fighting – and have a platform to – fight as often as possible.

“When the Paul vs. Tyson, I knew right away that I wanted to still fight on Saturday, July 20,” Paul explained. “Now, as I prepare to fight Iron Mike, there is no better opponent for me than Mike Perry. He is a proven knockout artist who has proven to be a maniac in and out of the ring. This is the perfect experience for me to gain before the fight with Mike Tyson. However, gaining such experience involves risk.

“Those who know me know I take risks and while Platinum Perry may try to end me, I am Titan Jake Paul and I’m not afraid of anyone. I’m going to get the W and give everyone a taste of what I bring to the ring against Mike Tyson. Tune in to DAZN PPV when I get back to Tampa and send “Platinum” Perry the Platypus back to bare knuckles for good.”

Of course, his opponent has other ideas.

“Jake Paul says he’s not afraid of anyone,” Perry asks. “But on Saturday, July 20, the world will see the truth. He just made the worst mistake of his life, trying to get through me before Iron Mike. On Saturday, July 20, I’ll make it look effortless and teach Jake Paul everything he’s learned about fighting.”

THE BIGGEST RETURNS ON THE BOXING CHARTS

Paul – currently based in Dorado, Puerto Rico – last fought on March 2 in San Juan. On an evening reserved for a great homecoming, Serrano knocked out Ryan Bourland (18-3, 6 KO) in the first round.

The main event was canceled minutes before the scheduled opening bell. Serrano was scheduled to defend her 126-pound crown against Nina Meinke, but her cornea was exposed to hair care chemicals. A last-ditch attempt to obtain medical leave proved futile, causing Serrano to tearfully apologize to her adoring fans.

Bad luck beyond her control resulted in the second consecutive fight date being canceled. Like Paul, the desire to fight far outweighed the thought of returning to the ring only in November.

“I was already preparing to fight on Saturday, July 20,” Serrano noted. “This is a chance for me to face another tough boxer in Stevie Morgan. My opponent has 13 KOs, more than almost every other lively boxer.

“But I’m not afraid of any woman – I support the war. I can’t wait to see all my Puerto Rican fans in Tampa for my 50th professional fight to show the world my super lightweight skills.

Serrano’s only other fight at the weight gave her her seventh title reign in the division. She soared well above her walk-around weight, passing Yamila Reynoso (then 11-4-3) to win the WBO 140-pound title.

The move is reminiscent of Serrano’s two-division weight jump in her last match at AMALIE Arena. She moved up to the lightweight category, where in December 2021 she fought and outclassed Miriam Gutierrez within ten rounds. The fight was the main support in Paul’s rematch with Tyron Woodley, whom he knocked out in the sixth round.

One fight later, Serrano came close to defeating Taylor via split decision. Their April 2022 undisputed lightweight champion remains the gold standard of superfights in women’s boxing.

Serrano returned to featherweight, where she fully unified the division over the course of her next two fights. She last defended her featherweight championship in a twelve-round decision defeating Danila Ramos (12-3, 1 KO) on October 27 in Orlando, Florida.

Serrano will now not only adjust to her opponent’s weight, but will also go to her hometown.

Tampa’s Morgan (14-1, 13 KO) has fought mostly in Colombia, with the exception of two in Memphis. This will be her first fight at home and a huge leap in the level of competition.

“We trained to prepare for an opportunity like this,” Morgan insisted. “I want to show my utmost respect to Amanda for everything she has accomplished in her career and for women’s boxing. “But in this sport, to make a name for yourself, you have to make a name for yourself

“I have 13 KOs and nothing will be sweeter than making Amanda Serrano number 14.”

UNDERCARD PROVIDES REMATCH ALL OVER FLORIDA

MVP also revealed one fight confirmed for the undercard.

Undefeated Florida prospects Tony Aguilar and Corey Marksman will return to form just five months after a thrilling lightweight stalemate on February 2 in Orlando. The two fought to a gripping six-round split decision draw, promising that their next fight would be an eight-rounder.

Aguilar (12-0-1, 4 KO), a 25-year-old resident of Crescent City, Florida, became the main character of MVP. This will be his fourth in a row in nine months.

In the spirit of proactivity, Aguilar entered another rematch when a second shooting bout was not immediately available. On April 26, six months after winning a split decision on the Serrano-Ramos undercard, he outpointed Alexander Rios over eight rounds.

Sharpshooter Orlando (9-0-1, 7 KO) was not available at the time, but he already appeared in the ring. On June 8, in his hometown, the 23-year-old knocked out journeyman Jonathan Perez in the first round.

“The stakes are high for each of the MVP fighters entering the ring,” said MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian. “The pressure is mounting for Jake and Amanda to come out with the W against two very threatening opponents in Mike Perry and Stevie Morgan.

“Jake Paul faces a monster in Mike Perry. Amanda Serrano will face a competitor who has 13 KOs in 15 fights. For our two superstars, nothing is given once and for all. We also have an incredible lineup of undercard fights, the first of which features extremely talented lightweight prospects Aguilar vs. Marksman. In this fight, these juvenile talents will put their undefeated records on the line and work to set a up-to-date precedent for potential title challengers in the sport.

“We are excited to return to Tampa and host another night of heart-pounding fights.”

Published

on

ProBox TV CEO Garry Jonas and Jamie Conlan will work together to bring ProBox TV’s “evenly matched action fights” ethos to the UK, starting on November 1 with a huge show in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The next event will take place a month later in Waterford, Ireland, on December 7, before Jonas and Conlan head to England and Scotland in 2025.

In the first event to be held at the SSE Arena, 18-1 (9 KO) Irish lightweight heavyweight Padraig McCrory will face Spain-based Colombian Leonard Carrillo (17-5 (6 KO)) and former Irish amateur star Kurt Walker, 11- 0 (2 KO) will face Rudy Garcia (13-1 (2 KO) from Los Angeles) and Robbie Davies from Liverpool, 23-5 (15 KO), after a 10-round loss to Sergey Lipinets on ProBox TV earlier on TV ProBox TV. year, he will face Dominican southpaw Javier Fortuna 38-4-1 (27 KO) in the junior middleweight division.

There will be even more work to be done in the future as part of the bill between ProBox TV, the US boxing channel that broadcasts worldwide – and owns BoxingScene – and Conlan Boxing.

“From day one, our plans were to enter the British market,” Jonas said. “This is the home of boxing. These are the best and most well-informed fans in the world. The US may be the best market for the biggest fights due to sheer population, but on a per capita basis the UK is by far the best English-speaking boxing market in the world.

Jonas said plans for 2025 are to launch in Liverpool and then begin arriving in the UK.

“We are a boxing channel, not a promoter,” Jonas explained, “with a very clear philosophy about the type of fights we do. Equally tailored action fights are what a true fan really wants to see; good fighters in great fights. We do not support a specific player; every fighter has a fair chance to win. We needed to find a promoter in the UK who was willing to follow these guidelines and we are pleased to announce that Conlan Boxing will be our promoter on the other side of the ocean. Jamie and Michael Conlan are among the best adolescent promoters in Europe and we are confident that they are the right people to facilitate us develop the ProBox televised fight series across Europe.

Jamie Conlan, a former pro and now head of Conlan Boxing, said he had no hesitation in joining the Florida-based chain.

“I have been very aware of ProBox TV for some time,” Conlan said. “Their fortnightly midweek boxing matches continue to impress me, with action-packed fights against large names. So I had to listen to Garry’s vision for bringing the ProBox TV model to the UK/Ireland and wider Europe, which is where I jumped into. Consistent competitive fights that gave fans value for money, sign up.”

It will start on Friday, November 1

“Starting in Belfast with Pody McCrory, a full-on shootout with Leonard Carrillo and Robbie Davies Jnr-Javier Fortuna in a real 50/50 crossroads fight, undefeated former Olympian Kurt Walker becomes the toughest test of his career against Rudy Garcia and a rematch of the Irish fight of the year in Rudy Farrell vs. Conor Kerr, it’s a great way to start the series in Belfast.

“Then it’s off to Waterford in December with an intriguing All-Ireland romance between Dylan Moran and Tyrone McKenna.”

Conlan said there are plans for a “heated and ponderous move next year” and the recent partnership will target monthly performances, creating a “steady stream of competitive fights that everyone will appreciate.”

For those looking to tune in for the broadcast on November 1, the ProBox TV app is available in all app stores as well as on Intelligent TVs, Apple TV, Fire TV and Roku – and it’s free. More details can be found at probotv.com.

Bill Haney to Oscar De La Hoya: “The lawsuit is final”

Author: Robbie Bannatyne – 10/01/2024 – Comments

Bill Haney took to social media today to inform promoter Oscar De La Hoya that his son Devin Haney’s lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and Ryan Garcia “is still lively.”

Haney (31-0, 15 KO) is suing Ryan for violating doping rules during the April 20 fight, during which Garcia tested positive for a banned substance.

Haney, 25, has not said what his career plans are or whether he will ever fight again. If this is Devin’s focus and hopes that his lawsuit will succeed, he may be disappointed if it fails. By now, former two-division world champion Haney should have signaled whether he will resume fighting.

Some fans have the impression that he has given up and is going to hang up his gloves. He took a vicious punch from Ryan (24-1, 20 KO) and went down several times over the 12 rounds in which he lost by decision.

According to Garcia, a rematch is no longer an option. He wants nothing to do with Haney because of his lawsuit.

“Oscar z [Hoya] everyone left. Gennadiy Golovkin sued you and Ryan Garcia threatened to sue you. I don’t have to sit down with you about anything,” Bill Haney said on social media, reacting to Oscar De La Hoya’s words on X that he would support the Haneys understand their contract to fight Ryan Garcia last April.

“I see you tweet a lot but you don’t say anything. Maybe you’re correcting somewhere. The lawsuit remains in effect,” Bill said.

If Haney continues his career, he will have to try to make up for the loss at 147 pounds. This will be tough for him because it is a tough division for fighters who lack power and a sturdy chin. Haney may be the equivalent of fish food at welterweight and won’t last long in that weight class.

Trey Kenzie Morrison Mike Balogun postponed

Tommy Morrison’s son, Kenzie Morrison, will have to wait a little longer to avenge his brother’s only defeat.

Morrison was scheduled to fight Mike Balogun on October 23 in Recent York. Balogun previously knocked out Trey Morrison, Kenzie’s sibling, in 161 seconds.

However, organizer Tony Holden wants to give Kenzi more time to prepare for his revenge mission.

“After careful consideration, I have made the complex decision to postpone the Morrison vs Balogun fight,” Holden said. “Kenzie has demonstrated unwavering commitment to training. However, I believe it is necessary to provide further training and sparring adapted to the caliber of this fight.

“I take full responsibility for this decision and am committed to ensuring Kenzie’s safety and success in the ring.”

The fight is not expected to be delayed for too long, as Kenzie is currently advertising sponsorship opportunities during the event.

“Kenzie Morrison is the son of legendary heavyweight champion Tommy “The Duke” Morrison. We have amazing sponsorship packages for Kenzie, including great seats at Madison Square Garden. Please contact me and I will arrange a time for Lou DiBella and me to discuss the details,” Holden told interested parties.

Packages ranging from $750 to $1,500 include fight tickets, autographs and even a personal appearance by Kenzie Morrison. Anyone interested please contact Kenzie, Tony Holden or Lou DiBella.

A fresh date for the Kenzie Morrison vs. Mike Balogun fight is expected soon. Meanwhile, Trey is still recovering from two car accidents and has returned to work full-time, but his boxing career remains uncertain.
