Naoya Inoue: Are we looking for Tank Davis for a potential megafight?

Image: Naoya Inoue: Scouting Tank Davis for a Potential Mega-Fight?

Naoya Inoue may appear at ringside this Saturday evening during the fight between Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Frank Martin, which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

This would be seen as reconnaissance mission for Inoue to look for weaknesses in the tank coming from Baltimore. He can check if Tank Davis is ready to harvest or if he needs to wait longer.

Inoue will have a chance to scout Tank Davis and find holes in his game that he can exploit if he decides to fight him.

Inoue stands to make a ton of money from a fight with Tank, which would dwarf what he’s made in other fights in his long career. The dough that Inoue could earn from a fight with Gervonta would be far greater than anything he could have dreamed of.

There is pressure on 31-year-old Naoya to take the fight against Gervonta because he ranks high on the pound-for-pound charts and is clearly of similar height. Inoue’s recent photos in the U.S. made him look like a walking 150-pounder. Naoya looked like a junior middleweight.

Inoue is certainly more than large enough to fight Davis, but whether he has the guts is another matter. Does Inoue have the courage?

Is Inoue content in the barren wastelands of the super bantamweight division?

It would take courage for Inoue to step up to that talent, and I can see why he wouldn’t. Inoue may decide it’s better to play it protected, avoid Tank Davis and stay in the barren super bantamweight division.

For Inoue (31), this will be the case ringside next weekend will raise speculation that he is considering increasing weight to fight for the belt with “regular” WBA lightweight champion Tank Davis (29-0, 27 KO).

Inoue has held world titles in four weight classes, which is obviously a large deal, but not that large considering the adversity he has faced thus far.

The problem is that the opponent “Monster” Inoue feasted on was not spectacular. Most fighters are anonymous to the average boxing fan and because of this, his fights attract little attention outside Japan.

A look at Inoue’s “impressive” CV

– Nonito Donaire: *At the end of his career
– Stephen Fulton: Unproven finesse fighter
– Jason Moloney
– Luis Nery: *After a knockout loss to Brandon Figueroa
– Jamie McDonnell
– Omar Narvaez: Once upon a time
– Emmanuel Rodríguez

Inoue (27-0, 24 KO) is the undisputed super bantamweight champion, but the boxing public wants him to move up to 126, 130 and 135 to test himself against the sharks in those weight classes.

Tyson Fury: “I have to knock out Usyk”

Published

Author: Sean Crose

“I didn’t think he beat me last time,” Tyson Fury said recently “and I sure as hell won’t let him beat me this time.” For those who don’t know, Fury lost his war against Oleksandr Usyk last May on cards in Saudi Arabia. He doesn’t want everything to be the same when the two men meet again in December in Saudi Arabia. “I have to knock out Usyk and I will train to knock him out well… and that is what I will do.”

Fury, who is celebrated for his outspoken and boisterous behavior, stressed that he would actually starch Usyk from afar. “This time I’m going to knock it out ct,” he said. “Believe it first. See it in your mind first and do it there. I can’t take anything away from ugly Usyk. I can’t say I didn’t prepare and train. I did what I had to do. He made a decision over me and we have to take it back.

Reflecting on the defeat to the immensely talented Usyk, Fury argued that it wasn’t entirely bad: “It makes sense to have a rematch and get the win back. I had already reached the point where I actually cared. This decision was probably made to wake me up and give me back that type of aggression where I feel like punching someone.

Fury has been known to go from acting enthusiastic to disinterested after doffing his symbolic hat… and he never lets it show if he engages in mind games or simply changes his mind frequently. However, at the moment he seems determined to avenge his defeat to Usyk – the first and only loss Fury has suffered in a 36-fight career.

“I have someone who can get the better of me,” he said, “who broke me, took my virginity, and stole it back where he lives.” And now the man wants to return the favor to Usyk. “That’s what I’m concerned about,” Fury said. “I don’t care about Anthony Joshua and what he does. I have a man who has me by the balls, let’s just say for now.

Without a doubt, Usyk-Fury 2 is one of the most anticipated fights of the year, if not the most anticipated fight, at least in part because it’s strenuous to predict a winner in advance – the first fight was so close.
