Deontay Wilder’s mother urged her son to retire following his devastating defeat to Zhilei Zhang in Riyad on Saturday night.

In a fight that was billed as a “loser leaves town,” Wilder looked like a shell of the man who terrorized the heavyweight division in overdue 2010, barely landing a punch before Zhang finished him in the fifth round.

Now 38 years venerable and his best days seemingly behind him, the “Brown Bomber” has no doubt heard the widespread calls for him to hang up his gloves on social media.

Today it turned out that among those begging the Alabama native to give himself time for his career is none other than his own mother.

I am talking with USA TODAY, Deborah Wilder has revealed that she told her son it was “time to celebrate” and “enjoy life”.

“I texted him and said, ‘Son, we’re throwing a party for you. You gave us the best boxing in the USA when boxing was dead.

“You’re getting venerable. You have run your course on your journey. It’s time to celebrate. Enjoy life now. Teach other juvenile men how to become champions.”

There has been no official word yet from Wilder on whether he will follow his mother’s advice, not to mention numerous other voices in the boxing world who have said he should sail off into the sunset.

The former WBC world champion said before the fight with Zhang that he would have to have: “big and serious conversation” about retirement, if he had not emerged victorious.

The American’s punch resistance and killer instinct appear to have completely deserted him, with many pundits putting this down to his grueling trilogy with Tyson Fury, with the second and third fights in particular believed to have had a lasting impact.

Whether he decides to call it quits or not, Wilder will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the hardest-hitting fighters in boxing history, as well as one of the most invigorating heavyweights in recent years.

Dmitry Bivol has rejected a possible rematch with Canelo Alvarez ahead of his bid to become the undisputed airy heavyweight champion.

Bivol shot to fame when he secured a dominating unanimous decision victory over Canelo in May 2022 in Las Vegas to retain his WBA airy heavyweight crown.

A rematch was announced after the fight, but Alvarez opted to return to super middleweight after suffering the second defeat of his professional career and first since his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2013.

Since then, the four-time super middleweight world champion has won five times over Edgar Berlanga and defended his unified WBA, WBO and IBF super middleweight world titles.

Bivol, who will face unified WBC, WBO and IBF champion Beterbiev for the undisputed crown on October 12 in Riyad, insists he is no longer interested in fighting the Mexican, who he believes has missed his chance.

“He had a chance to do it [a] rematch,” said the 33-year-old FightHype.com.

“He didn’t take advantage of this opportunity.

“He didn’t even negotiate on this matter and now the matter is closed.

“I have my own way. He has his own path in the super middleweight division.

“I am a airy heavyweight fighter.

“Just different weights.”

Since defeating Alvarez, undefeated Russian he won three fights in a row, the last one by sixth-round TKO against Malik Zinad in June, also in Riyad.

The two were scheduled to meet on June 1, but Beterbiev withdrew knee injury.

The 39-year-old is undefeated in 20 professional fights, all of which ended by knockout, but Bivol insists he is not focusing on his opponent’s appalling knockout rate.

Bivol added: “I try not to pay too much attention to things like ‘he has incredible power, he’s a unsafe fighter.’

“I’m not trying to draw attention to [people saying] he’s already vintage.

“I just try to pay attention to what he’s doing in the ring, his skills and all that, and I try to pay attention to what my coach says.”

A member of Mike Tyson’s team has a chilling message for Jake Paul

Published

on

Jake Paul received a stern warning at the end of his intense fight with former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

Their long-awaited clash was originally scheduled for July, but had to be postponed due to Tyson’s ulcer becoming inflamed, forcing him to stop training on doctor’s advice. However, Tyson’s camp assures fans that he will be in good fighting shape before he heads to the ring next month.

The fierce clash, scheduled for Friday, November 15, will break out at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, potentially in front of a colossal crowd of 90,000 spectators. Mike Tyson has not appeared in a professional match since losing to Kevin McBride in 2005, and his last in-ring appearance was in 2020 during a closed-door event against Roy Jones Jr.

Meanwhile, YouTuber Paul, 27, is basking in the glory of his latest victory over UFC alumnus Mike Perry, which came last July.

The trash talk heats up as Tyson’s entourage ramps up the mind games. A promotional clip appeared online in which a member of Tyson’s team declares: “We’re not going to throw just one bomb. We want to throw bullet after bullet.”

One of the boxing legend’s trainers boldly declared that Paul would get into stern trouble if he dared to step into the ring today, saying, “If the fight was today, Jake Paul would be over,” and emphasizing his constant attack strategy: “He throws missiles, and not just one bomb. The bombs come one after the other.

Ahead of his upcoming fight in the ring, Tyson sparked health concerns after recently confessing: “It’s difficult to walk right now. But in two months I will be perfect. The fight is won in the gym. Listen, I’ll do anything to lend a hand me. I’m going to have fun here with all my childhood friends and, damn it, Jake Paul.

The confusion in the boxing community is palpable as Tyson unveils training photos ahead of his fight with Paul, sparking a rift among fans. Additionally, eyebrows were raised at the seriousness of his approach after the straightforward revelation.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, “Iron Mike” revealed his training schedule: “I train extremely difficult, I train six hours a day. I start at 11 a.m. and can leave the gym at 5 p.m.,” to the host’s disbelief. In response to Kimmel’s disbelief, Tyson agreed to a brief respite, prompting Kimmel to react with surprise: “Oh no.”

Adding to concerns is the risk that Tyson could face a boxing ban if he fails a drug test as a result of his pre-fight admission of potential cannabis operate. When asked by Kimmel if he would be high for a fight with Paul, Tyson replied: “I’ll be high in my life, yes.”

This led to further questions about marijuana operate, to which he replied, “That’s possible too.” A surprised Kimmel remarked, “Oh no, my bet is getting smaller as we talk.”

The seriousness of Mike Tyson’s intentions remains a question mark. However, if he decides to operate marijuana before his upcoming fight with “The Problem Child,” the consequences could be stern.

The Texas Commission, which has strict rules on such substances, can impose significant sanctions.

In a stark warning from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), they stated: “If any combatant tested positive for a banned substance, we would file a grievance, suspend him or her for 90 days, and if the combatant prevailed, the decision would be changed to a no-decision due to violations of the rules.

Tyson Fury seems to be gaining strength before his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk on December 21.

Fury will be looking to exact revenge on Usyk when they meet for the second time in Saudi Arabia, seven months after their first meeting, in which the Ukrainian won split decision win the undisputed heavyweight title.

Undisputed glory will be up for grabs for the “Gypsy King” in the rematch after Usyk vacated the IBF belt, which Daniel Dubois then defended in a fifth-round defeat of Anthony Joshua last month, to advance to the full IBF title.

Fury, who suffered his first professional defeat, appears keen to gain a mental advantage over his rival after he began taunting him on social media on Thursday.

The 36-year-old referred to the disastrous ninth round in which he hit the ropes and was knocked out standing.

The two-time world heavyweight champion survived the onslaught and made it to the final bell, and Fury feels his inability to completely finish him off will be crucial when they meet again.

“About halfway through you feel the wrath of the gypsy king,” he wrote on his Instagram story.

“You should have finished me off when you had the chance.”

The two behaved respectfully as they sat close to each other at Wembley Stadium to witness Dubois’ shock victory over Joshua and even took selfies together.

However, Fury dropped these niceties by posting profanity in an Instagram post.

“You had a chance, but you couldn’t finish the job! Mistake!

“Now you will feel the wrath of the threat! Fuck Usyk. Fuck Aegis Klimas. F*** Alex Krasiuk and if you’re with Usyk, then fuck you too.

“Gypsy King 2024 for coming to you. December 21st is mine. Me against the world. Upcoming 3-time heavyweight champion.”

Usyk became the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis achieved the feat in 1999 and became the inaugural champion of the four-belt era.

The 37-year-old, who has never been drawn into a war of words, replied to the Briton with a basic five-word answer.

“You are very chilly, my friend.”
