Mike Tyson has expressed his desire to postpone his boxing match with Jake Paul, suggesting that a potential date would be the last quarter of this year. The pair’s competition, originally scheduled for July 20, was postponed due to Tyson’s sudden accident during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles.
Paul later revealed that Tyson had communicated with him, confirming his desire to continue the fight at the earliest possible opportunity, likely between October and December. In line with Mike’s decision to postpone the fight, the boxing influencer expressed sympathy regarding Tyson’s recent health issues on a plane earlier this week.
Sharing his response on Instagram, Paul lamented: “Obviously this is devastating news, I am devastated, speechless, gutted. We worked challenging here, all of us at this camp, and I feel sorry for everyone involved in this event, this whole undercard. This opportunity was taken away from all of us, but I appreciate Mike’s health.
“I love this guy, I respect him so much and I want Mike to be hearty. He keeps saying he’s going to knock me out, so I bought myself some time, so Mike keeps talking… there. But Mike, if you still want to do it, like you said behind closed doors, I’m ready whenever you’re ready.
“This is too gigantic a chance, this fight will change the world. I’m turning all my L’s into W’s – the motto I live by – and the universe doesn’t make mistakes, so let’s see what’s in store for us, but I’m sorry it didn’t work on the outside.”
In his statement, Tyson said: “Unfortunately, due to the recurrence of my peptic ulcer, my doctor has advised me to ease my training for a few weeks to rest and recover. My body is in better overall condition than it has been since 1990 and I will be back to a full training schedule soon.”
It is still unclear whether Paul will join the fight scheduled for July 20 at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, and Katie Taylor is scheduled to face Amanda Serrano on the fight card.
Amidst the uncertainty, an unexpected challenger has emerged in the form of Paul’s brother, Logan. Despite their close relationship, disputes have increased in recent years, especially after Logan decided to start a company with Jake’s biggest rival, KSI.
In a statement to X, Logan mentioned: “So Mike Tyson is out? I will step in and we will settle this once and for all,” he added to the statement, along with a photo of his confrontation with Jake.
